Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Please allow 2 working days for your repeat prescriptions

Reapeat requests can be placed in the 'Repeat Prescription Box' in the lobby. If you wish to have your prescription sent to you please enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your request. Remember to allow extra time for this.

Repeat Prescriptions can be collected by the local chemist that deals with your medication - please discuss this with them to arrange collection.

Requests for repeat prescriptions cannot be taken over the telephone

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription Prepayment Certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2011, the charges are:

Prescription (per item): £7.40
12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
3-month PPC: £29.10

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.40, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £29.10 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.

We have an onsite dispensary for those patients who live more that a mile from their nearest chemist, or who are unable to get to a chemist.

Our dispensary is very small but we endeavour to keep a good and varied stock.
