INFECTION CONTROL ANNUAL STATEMENT

2023 - 2024

PURPOSE

An annual Infection Control Statement will be generated each year, areas for consideration are :

  • Any infection transmission incidents and any action taken ( these will have been reported in accordance with our Significant Events Reporting procedures and submitted to the Clinical Commissioning Group via QUASAR if appropriate)
  • Details of any infection control audits undertaken and actions taken.
  • Details of any infection control risk assessments undertaken.
  • Details of staff training.
  • Any review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines

BACKGROUND

The infection prevention and control lead for The Denmead Practice is Advanced Nurse Practitioner Lucy Blamire

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

AUDITS

An Infection Control Inspection was carried out in house by ANP Lucy Blamire in APRIL 2023

The purpose of the audit was to ensure appropriate systems are in place for patients/service users and to ensure risk of infection is kept to a minimum.

Cleaning Audit Score from NHS Property Services

Score achieved on all areas above 90%

Areas for Improvement are:

High surfaces need more intensive cleaning in some clinical areas, Electrical items and radiators need wiping more intensively

The assessment tool used by Lucy Blamire/IPC lead Charmaine Donnelly for all clinical areas was the IPC Hampshire and Isle of Wight Audit Tool

Areas for Improvement are:

Clutter/personal items found in some GP rooms requiring removal to allow full cleaning process to occur as per guidance

Signing of cleaning forms in clinical rooms ,to be placed in each clinical room and needs to be more detailed and robust

Documentation to support cleaning of ECG machine after each pt use, this is done but nothing formally signs to demonstrate this

Provision for environmental cleaning of building to be assessed and areas of concerns highlighted to cleaning providers
