Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

MB BS MRCS MRCP MRCGP Dr Goulder qualified at Guy's, London in 1976. He joined the Practice in 1980. He has particular interest in Diabetes, working at the Diabetic Unit in QA, and is the Diabetic Lead for East Hampshire Primary Care Trust.

MB BS MRCOG Dr Warwick-Brown qualified at Bart's, London in 1980. She joined the Practice in 1990 and specialises in Family Planning and Obstetrics. She holds a Hospital Practitioner appointment in Obstetrics at St Mary's Hospital.

Debbie Stimpson
Is our Practice Manager, who is able to help with any non-medical or administrative aspects of the practice, she is also available to discuss any suggestions or problems you may have in relationship to the Surgery.

Jane Wright
Jane is the Assistant Practice Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the Practice and will stand in for Debbie in her absence.

Administration

We have a team of three part time secretaries who can be contacted via the enquiry line on 023 9223 9630. They are happy to deal with any administrative queries and requests. The secretaries are also able to give information regarding Private referrals and Consultants.

Reception

We have a friendly team of Receptionists who are here to help and assist you in whichever way they can. The Reception Team is headed by Marion, our Senior Receptionist.

If you have a query that cannot be solved we will endeavour to find someone that can. In some circumstances our reception staff are required to ask for as much information as possible - for example when a home visit is requested. This is in order for your doctor to assess the situation and deal with it correctly. Confidentiality is a priority at the surgery and any information given will be dealt with appropriately.

We are unable to give out any information to family members or friends unless written consent from the patient concerned has been given to the Practice. Please understand that this is a stipulation of the Data Protection Act and is for the protection of our patients.

Dispensers

Our Dispensary is staffed by three Pharmacy Technicians - Val, Pauline and Kerri-Sue. The Dispensary opening hours are: 9 - 12am & 2 - 6pm Mon - Fri.

Please allow 2 working days for your repeat prescriptions and also try to avoid ringing the Dispensary to request your repeat medication.

Our dispensary is very small, but we endeavour to keep a good and varied stock! We have daily deliveries from our suppliers to ensure the smooth running of the dispensary.

The Health Authority stipulates that patients living within a mile from their own chemist are requested to collect their repeat prescription from us and take it to a chemist, however if you live more than a mile from a chemist (or are unable to get to a chemist) we can dispense your medication here at the Health Centre.
